Charmaine Magumbe, CRRC’s Chair and Recipient of the YWCA Peace Award!

“Charmaine Magumbe says peace is like a quilt.

She made the comparison during a speech on Friday morning (Nov. 24) after accepting the 2017 YMCA Peace Medal.

‘I’m not a quilt maker, but when you are creating a quilt you use different pieces of material. Sometimes the pieces you use are what some people have rejected, but they can still be used,’ says Magumbe. ‘Sometimes you use cloth that is a real high quality. They use different sizes and different colours, and depending on the quilt, it needs community effort to put together … making one big, beautiful piece.'”
